The other day, I was able to display the Nixie tube IN-14 by wiring with a breadboard.

This time, I would like to build these circuits into an alarm clock, and eventually create an alarm clock-like clock.

Solder on a round board

Placement considerations

I made a universal board that is the same size as the diameter of an alarm clock.The ESP32-DevKitC-VB microcomputer board, the driver board made for the breadboard the other day, and the DCDC converter for the Nixie tube are placed on the board so that they fit nicely.

Soldering

The surface looks like this.

For wiring, I use 0.3mm solder-plated wire and 0.2mm polyurethane wire.Solder-plated wires have better solder adhesion than tin-plated wires. Tin-plated wires can be frustrating, but solder-plated wires do not.

The 0.2mm polyurethane wire is very easy to wire because the heat of the soldering iron melts the coating.

These wires are highly recommended, as they will greatly improve your work efficiency.

It's a pretty good feeling and the board is put together.

Operation check

It will be sad if it doesn't work after it's assembled, so I'll write the program and check its operation in this state.

Disassemble the alarm clock </ h2>

Decomposition

Disassemble an ordinary alarm clock with a needle type that rings a bell with a ringing bell.The hammer that strikes the bell was glued in place.Unfortunately, due to space limitations, the mechanism to drive the hammer cannot be built in.

Interior work

Put black cardboard on the inside of your alarm clock to make it look better.

Assembly

Put the board in

The microcomputer and parts behind the Nixie tube are a little too conspicuous.It may be fine as is, but I'd like to process it so that it doesn't stand out.

Paint the board

Once disassembled, remove the board.And the board was painted with the spray of the matte black.

The back part of the Nixie tube is no longer noticeable.

Now, assemble again.

Tighten up

The black color of the parts around the Nixie tube makes the interior look tighter and the Nixie tube looks more pronounced.It looks good.

Right now, it's just a count-up test program, so I'll try to improve it into an NTP clock program next time.
